Blog Post #3 Inspiration

This blog will be about my Inspiration for this film!

The Movies/TV shows that inspired me to create this film include "Swagger", "Shooting Stars", and "Hustle. These basketball movies and TV shows have all of the key genre elements that are going to go into my film. breaking down these films and TV shows one by one is the simplest way to analyze each of these media sources and how their ideas will contribute to my film.

The first movie that will contribute to my film is the Netflix original "Hustle". This movie will help contribute to the main plot of this movie which is the stress and hard work that goes into making it to the NBA and completing your dreams. This movie takes place in the present days of basketball, this movie is about a scout trying to help a talented young athlete from Spain make it to the NBA. This movie uses the bright lighting of the basketball court to express that the spotlight is on the athlete when they are on the court, and they know that they have to succeed each day to have a chance to make it. I will be incorporating this aspect of the lighting into my movie and also the stress that comes with the aspect of making it to the NBA.

The next media source that will contribute to my film is the show "Swagger". The key elements I am using from this show is the internal team conflict that is created throughout the movie, this is caused by many factors like players feeling that they aren't playing enough in the game and players not trusting teammates. This TV show is led by a singular main character named "Jace Carson", he is then supported with a lot of prominent side characters throughout the show. This is similar to my idea of the characters for my film, with one main character that the plot flows around with side characters to help keep the dramatic and action filled plot sustained. This TV show's main goal is for Jace Carson to be the best basketball player that he could possibly and go through a learning curve to respect and value his teammates more. This is being translated to my film through the idea of Saquon trying to become the best basketball player that he can be.

The next film that I am using as Inspiration for my film is "Shooting Stars". This is a documentary about Lebron James high school career and his successes vs defeats. I will mainly be using the idea that it takes time and work to push closer towards your dreams. Also, the film highlights the stress that being in the spotlight at such a young age does to a player, physically and most importantly mentally. So, this is what I'm using because I would like to use these same ideas with the character of Saquon and his struggle to deal with the pressure of being a star young athlete.
