Blog Post #4 Zion Williamson

For this blog I will be discussing an NBA player who had to go through the same stress as our main character Saquon, his name is Zion Williamson.

Zion Willaimson was born and raised in Salisbury, North Carolina. Zion wasn't always the tallest kid with him being just 5, 9 entering his summer of freshman year in high school but then over that summer he grew to be 6, 3. This drastic change made it so that he was looked at differently by coaches as less of a bench and role player but more as a offensive unit of a player. This change had to have been very stressful for Zion with him having to change his role on his team so quickly. This should be in comparison with Saquon who is expected to be his team's star player. Saquon has also taken on some other troubles with his team and him not cooperating. This leading to him looking like a worse player on the court.

After a fairly impressive freshman season, Zion started training to become great and he also grew to 6,6. This increased height and training led to him becoming his High School team's best player, but after this season he started to get national attention and this is what really starts to create the stress factors and high expectations for young athletes. This is because they feel as though they have to play at a certain level to perform up to their own and everyone else's standards. This can create tension between the players since the "national player may believe that he has to score a certain number of points and rebounds in order to succeed. Then Zion's Junior and Senior seasons come around and he is even more dominant then the years before with him gaining muscle and becoming a powerhouse in the paint. This just goes to show how the media attention never got to him, and he was able to push past it. This is what Saquon will try to do too.

Zion then joins Duke's basketball team where now he is expected on a day-to-day basis to put up highlight plays for them. This is mainly because of the media pushing agendas about young athletes causing them to have to overwork themselves and get injured or quit the sport. Saquon is put into similar shoes too with him having to become the great player that everyone already expects him to be. After a Successful collegian career for Zion he was drafted by the New Orleans pelicans. This goes to show that not letting media attention and stats get to you is the best way to succeed. Also, the training and effort that you put in to become great is also especially important towards the success of these young athletes. This is what Saquon strives to do and accomplish but he may have a problem trying to push the stats and the media criticism to the back of his mind through all of the drama being built up within his team.
