For this blog I will be discussing the Genre!

The Genre of the movie is the most important part of it, it can help the director find a target audience and subject different marketing strategies. The Genre of the movie also helps the viewer understand what the narrative will be. The Genres I am basing my movie around is Sports, Drama, and Action. This is because these Genres are able to captivate an audience and help them stay engaged with the plot and the character's development throughout the movie. This compares to the movie "The Blind Side"




The reason why I chose the sports Genre is because the emotion and effort that is displayed by athletes throughout the world and if displayed properly can lead to an emotional movie with a lot of suspense. The sport that I'm doing is basketball, this is because the sport is very energetic and has many moments of suspense and drama. This sport also has a very large use of representation with most athletes in this sport being minorities. This can help the movie reach a larger scale of audience with this use of diversity and equality in the movie. This compares to the film "Shooting Stars".




The reason why I chose this movie to be a drama film is because drama films commonly hold their viewers' attention span for a longer period of time than any other genre of movie. Also, they are known to be movies that have more complex and developed plot lines within the movies leading to a more enjoyable viewing experience. These types of movies also can have some of the most complex villains or anti-hero's this is because of the detailed story lines that are developed throughout these genres of movies. This compares to the TV show "swagger".




The reason why I chose this film to also be an action movie is because in a sports movie, action elements are a necessary. For example, the shots in this movie will be very detailed and will make the action in this film very intriguing and exciting. Also, the shots and editing style of action films will be one of the key components of this film and it will help the flow of the film seem almost as if it is a fast-paced thriller but in actuality it will also have many slow-paced dramatic moments.

Blog Post #6 Sports in Film

Today I will be analyzing The Longest Yard, which is a Sports Films and how it is good at helping convey the other genres in that film through its different micro elements, specifically Mise-en-Scene. The Longest Yard The Longest Yard is a football movie that is centered around a star quarterback who got into trouble with the law, this getting him arrested. Then this brings up the location which is centered in a prison with the quarterback ("Paul Crewe", The main character) having to put together a football team to compete with the guards of that prison. This is because the prison wants to humiliate the prisoners and make it seem as though they are nothing compared to the guards of the prison, it will also re-assure the public about their prison security and their overall security system.
