Blog Post #28 Character Development Part: Two

Today I will be continuing my research and connection of my film through the Character Development of characters.

The use of the convention of main ideas also helps push the plot of the movie, this is through the actions of the main characters based on these ideas. An example of this is when after the guards fully trust John, they bring him to the bed side of a dying women where John heals the women and endures the pain that she had gone through. This shows how through the character development of the guards the plot is able to expand leading to the convention of the Todorov Plot Structure and also more interesting sequences for the audience to enjoy. Also, through the use of these ideas the film is able to influence the audience's ideals, and it can help teach people important ideas and morals. For example, the idea to "never judge a book by its cover" is influenced on the audience in this film and it can teach this important moral. So, this is how the simple use of character development through the guards helps convey the central ideas of the film and the plot of the film "The Green Mile".

This links to my film because of the character development that the side characters in my film go through with them beginning the film by starting to resent Saquon because of his successes. But throughout the process of the film the side characters begin to have a development arc with them realizing that they shouldn't be jealous of Saquon's successes but rather embrace them and try to help him reach his fullest potential as a player. An example of this is when Saquon is playing with his teammate at the park with his coach there and a scout introduces himself to Saquon. This creates jealousy for the teammate but throughout the film the teammate learns to respect him for his talent rather than resent him for it.
