Blog Post #22 Representation in Film Part: Two
Today I will be continuing my analysis of the film "Black Panther" and its use of representation.
This use of representation through heritage beliefs is common throughout the film, especially when T'challa meets with his father in the afterlife believing that his time had come. This is a representation of people who believe in the afterlife and the idea of your soul living on after death and also a representation of the belief that your heritage is what makes a person. the idea of heritage is widely used throughout the film with the main idea being about the heritage of the "Black Panther" and the ideals that come through that.

This use of representation to convey counter-stereotypes will be evident in my film through the immense usage of the idea of non-violence throughout the film. This is because of the overall setting of my film and the location that it is set in, which is in a disorganized community filled with gang violence and war. So the main character of my film is trying to preach for peace in this area rather than joining the violence that has manifested itself in the culture. The main idea of this is to show that while some maybe even most people in a bad community want to take advantage of it and commit crime, some others like Sequin want to try and restore the community and bring it to new levels past the idea of violence and into the future of forgiveness.
