Blog Post #29 Life in "Bell Creek"
Today I will be talking about the main location of my film, how it relates to other similar locations in the real world, and how it will affect the plot sequencing in my film.
The main location of my film is "Bell Creek" this area is a more low-class community with a lot of violence and crime throughout it. The "Bell Creek" area is home to around seventy-five thousand people with many different ethnic backgrounds and many sharing different opinions. This leads to a lot of violence due to people having different beliefs and ideals around strong topics. A similar real-world comparison is the area of Compton, USA, this is because of the similar class levels and violence that are apparent throughout the city. The area of Compton is also home to around ninety-five thousand people. The main problem with Compton is the amount of violence that unfortunately takes place in this area, this is mainly because of the lack of the lack of people to enforce laws in these areas. Also because of the lack of money that influxes throughout this area this leads to a lack of jobs in this area. This in turn causes people to commit crimes like robbery enable to support themselves, which is the primary reason for violence and the low-class living environments most have to struggle with.
In "Bell Creek" sports are very popular with many trying to succeed at them in order to try and leave. This is because if they aren't able to leave this area through sports and college, they will most likely have to live in it for the first stages of their lives after schooling. This is through the fact that there wouldn't be enough high-paying jobs in order to afford to move and this leads to them having to save up money in order to leave the area which could take years to do. So, this leads to many trying to get out of the area through the use of their love for basketball and the opportunity it allows them to have. This attachment to basketball leads to many believing that they deserve to be the ones who get the scholarships to top schools and thrive in a new life outside of "Bell Creek". But this desire and belief leads to many fights in the basketball games even between teammates because of their need to play to their best abilities. This in turn undermines the success of their teammates and this can cause selfishness within the player or even within an entire team.
So, this relates to the main character of my film and his teammates because he is able to succeed at basketball at a high level. This leads to his teammates beginning to start and resent him as a player because he received a possible scholarship from a college scout. In-turn Saquon starts underperforming because he isn't being passed the ball by his teammates due to their resentment and jealousy towards him. This underperforming worries Saquon because he may not get the scholarship that he needs in order to leave "Bell Creek", this is where the main plot idea comes in from the main character's perspective.
