Blog Post #34 Story-Boarding

Today I will be creating a storyboard for my film's opening forty-five second sequence.

This storyboard details the camera angles that I will use, the details in the shot and the transitions between each of the shots to create the first scene. Now not all of this Storyboard will be used in the film, but many shots will be influenced by the ideas used. For example, the title sequence will most likely be used in the filming process of the film with the sky as the background. Also having a storyboard for your film can help generate new ideas that can be incorporated in order to create an immersive experience for the audience. Also, a storyboard can help with shots that use little to no dialogue because it allows for the director to think more directly bout the camera angles and the Mise-en-Scene aspects of the film a little about the acting skills being incorporated. This is heavily detailed in my film's first 2 minutes with the scenery and Mise-en-Scene being the main aspects of the shots that are used. For example, one of the shots that I storyboarded in for my film is the long shot that is used to immerse the audience in the set and the scenery around the set. This opening shot is mainly used to set the setting of the scene rather than the tone and mood, this is the main reason why storyboards are important to directors because of their ability to create camera angles and immersive scenery designs rather than set the mood and tone of the film.

For example, in the film Jurassic Park, the opening sequence in this film is not used to create a mood while the sound does do that slightly it is mainly used to create a sense of Mise-en-Scene and display the setting for the audience. With the dark lighting and foggy environment able to create suspense just through the use of the setting and camera shots. So, this is why storyboarding is important for your first opening sequence and even throughout the film because it gives the directors ideas about scenery and lighting that will be used in different shots.
