Blog post #36 Filming Location
Today I will be talking about the filming location and why I chose it.
This is Veterans Memorial Park (14333 Hicks Road), this place is a recreational center that is home to many things ranging from kids cheerleading to pickleball. This center has four main areas, the soccer fields, the left outdoor center, the right outdoor center, and the indoor area. The main area for my filming was the left outdoor center, this is because of its disperse vegetation, wildlife, and outdoor basketball courts that are newly redone. These courts are public and are not a very popular area like the indoor basketball courts, so it is easy to record there. The lighting will be natural because of the outdoor environment helping with the Mise-en-Scene aspects of the film. The vegetated area next to the basketball courts makes for an imagery filled scene that can immerse the audience in the beautiful environment. These courts also are newly redone, this helps make the film look more professional and it helps with the setting of the opening scene. This allows for the first two minutes of the film, to captivate the audience's attention through the vivid imagery and the nice and active environment that fills the sound.
The problems with this filming location are slim but they are evident, one example, is the shadows of the actors that will be evident in some of the shots. While the shadows add to the realism in the scene, it is hard to captivate the full use of the lighting through the shadows. These shadows can pose a problem for the camera too with certain shots being harder to film due to the low lighting in the shot. Another problem in the film that is mainly caused by the shadows is the lack of fill light. This makes it hard to film in a certain direction because of the lack of key light on the characters faces. This can cause the film to seem stiff due to a lack of physical emotions in the scene. But besides those two problems, most of the filming process becomes easier due to the abundance of key light in the natural lighting choice and the courts being new adding to the setting and Mise-en-Scene aspects of my film.
