Blog Post #37 The Props

Today I will be talking about the Prop that will be used in my film and how Prop's effect films.

The Prop that is going to be used in my film is a Wilson Outdoor Basketball, the main reason why I used this basketball in my film is because this basketball is good for outdoor courts and it has very good grip. This makes it easier for the actors to dribble the basketball on the outdoor courts which is where we are filming. This is because of the good grip on the basketball and its ability to bounce well on concrete in comparison to other indoor basketballs. This ball is also new, this is because of the benefit that it adds to the Mise-en-Scene with a newer ball looking better on camera then a worn down one. So the use of this Prop can help with the Mise-en-Scene, and also with the actors ability to dribble the ball. The actors ability to dribble the ball is important because it adds to the fluidity in the scene and it makes the scene feel more realistic to the audience. If the ball was of lower quality it can make the dribbling in the scenes seem stagnant and it can cause the actors to complain about their ability to create authentic and realistic scene. A lower quality ball can also lead to a worse use of Mise-en-Scene in the shots because of the lack of realism in these shots. This is because if Saquon plays basketball all of the time then why would he have a low quality basketball.

Props are commonly used in film to establish shots or convey scenes better, the film Star Wars is a great example of this. This is because of the Light Sabers and their ability to convey the scenes better, specifically action scenes. This is because when you see a Light Saber in a scene of Star Wars it helps indicate to the audience that an action sequence is most likely to occur. The same can be said with my film because of the common use of basketballs as an indicator for an action sequence to occur. Another use of props is to better convey Mise-en-Scene in films. An example of this is the way that the Light Sabers in Star Wars fill the dark rooms in many shots with light. This makes for a unique sense of Mise-en-Scene in these films because of the unordinary Key and fill light in many scenes. This is a main reason why Star Wars is loved by millions of people across the globe. So this is how props are essential to film and can help with many micro elements throughout.
