Blog Post #46 Titling Sequence in Film
Today I will be talking about the titling sequence in film and in my film.
The Titling sequence in film can help convey the tone and mood of the upcoming film. This is because of the background of the title, the color of the title, and the font of the title. So the background of the title can help set the tone of the film through a solid color like the animated show, "Invincible"'s title card or set the scene of the first shot. These are both effective with the scenery background helping forward the plot to the next sequence and the main color helping to build the mood and tone of the film. Another aspect of the titling sequence is the coloring of the title, this is mainly used to evoke emotion in the audience and give a clue as to what the main tone is going to be in the film. Finally the last main aspect is the font that is used for the title and this can help set the overall pace of the scene with it being more common with crazier fonts having faster paced films and more bold and aesthetic fonts having steadier films.
For example the titling sequence in the film "Whiplash" uses a dark background that is mainly meant to focus the reader on the big red color on the main title. This implies that the film will be violent and have a lot of aggression in it, this turns out to be true in this film. But the film is also indicated to be a slow paced film because of its bold and straight font conveying that this film will not be that crazy and fast paced. This also turns out to be true with it being a slow paced film that makes it a key to focus on each individual plot point to strengthen the films ideas.
So, In my film I will be using my titling sequence to establish the setting of the opening two minute sequence and my title is using a background of the daylight sky and bold white text to convey a neutral and plot driven film.
